Water is a vital resource for pharmaceutical manufacturing—used in everything from production processes to cleaning and cooling. As global water scarcity intensifies, companies in our sector have a responsibility to manage water wisely, not only to protect the environment but also to ensure operational continuity and supply chain resilience. That’s why water stewardship—including reducing water consumption, improving water quality, and promoting reuse—is a critical part of sustainable business.

Responsible water use protects both a precious resource and the resilience of our business. As such, Centrient prides itself on its water stewardship practices, guided by the water targets set out in its ESG Strategy 2021–2030.

In addition to our water-related targets, Centrient has robust procedures and initiatives in place to encourage responsible water stewardship across all our manufacturing sites.

We also actively seek opportunities for water reuse and recycling, and continually review our water usage with the goal of reducing overall consumption and strengthening our environmental impact.

Centrient's commitments

Our ESG Ambition 2021-2030 includes specific targets to reduce water consumption and prevent adverse impacts on the water supply. Our targets are supported by procedures and initiatives aimed at encouraging responsible water stewardship. Notably, our targets include:

  • Reduce water intensity by 5% by 2025 (base year 2015)
  • Reduce water consumption by 10% by 2030 (base year 2021)
  • Conduct water assessment, including alignment on mid-term targets, after realisation of initial targets, by 2027

 What we achieved in 2024

  • Reducing  water intensity by 18%
  • Reducing water consumption by 13%
  • Targeting  a water assessment in the coming years
  • Auditing our water use at our manufacturing site in Toansa, India and improving water recycling efforts by 50% leading to a reduction in overall water usage by 9% in India alone
